Fiverr is among the most popular freelancing platforms on the web. Ranked as one of the top 400 websites in the world by Alexa, it allows businesses of varying sizes to find talented freelance workers who perform a wide variety of digital services.
These services are also called gigs and start at the price of $5 (hence the name). With its commitment to changing how the world works, the freelancing marketplace has grown in importance, year over year, and even more so since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Buyers can purchase from over three million gigs to suit their business and personal needs. These gigs fall under the following categories:
Writing and translation
Graphics design
Digital marketing
Video and animation
Business
Programing and tech
Lifestyle
Music and audio
When it comes on to writing, many bloggers have used Fiverr, in one way or another, to improve their businesses. If you own a blog or have an interest in blogging, this platform may be helpful to you. Before going into that, let’s talk more about the website’s background, as well as its pros and cons.
What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is a marketplace that brings buyers (including employers and individuals) and sellers (freelance workers) together. The platform reported over 2.4 million buyers in 2019 and more than 830,000 sellers. Founded in 2010 by Micha Kaufman and Shai Wininger, Fiverr is available in 160 countries around the world, making it one of the most well-known freelancing platforms. It is headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, but also has offices in the U.S.
Getting started on Fiverr
Setting up a Fiverr account is easy, whether you want to join as a freelancer or buyer. Once on the homepage, you can select “join” and use your email address to sign up. You can also use your Facebook, Google or Apple account instead. You will then be asked to enter a username for your profile (important note: – make sure the username you choose is something that represents you because it cannot be changed after you have created your account).
Once your seller profile is set up, it is time to start creating gigs. On the other hand, you can start buying gigs if you are looking to hire freelancers. Setting up a gig involves the following steps:
Writing a suitable gig title that describes what you are offering
Selecting a gig category
Pricing your gigs
Adding a description as to what your gig entails
Uploading a gig image or video
Providing instructions for buyers
Publishing your gig
New sellers are able to create up to seven gigs on Fiverr. As you unlock new levels, you are able to create more gigs, as well as gain access to other tools that can help you grow your freelancing business. Sellers on Fiverr are ranked on different levels: New sellers (or no level), Level one, Level two, and Top-rated. Each level is achieved with the freelancer having reached a set milestone stipulated by Fiverr. Moving from one level to the next depends on several factors, including number of orders completed, number of reviews, ratings, and revenues earned.
In addition, Fiverr offers free and paid courses that allow sellers to become certified in different fields, and there is also an opportunity to qualify for its Fiverr Pros program.
Based on my experience, Fiverr seems to be among the best online marketplaces to buy and sell business services. However, the website does have its drawbacks. It’s time to talk about the pros and cons of using Fiverr.
Pros of using Fiverr if you are a buyer:
Large pool of freelancers to choose from
Wide range of services being offered for pretty much every area of business you can think of
Ranking system allows you to find talent at varying skill levels, including certified professionals (Fiverr Pros)
Gigs start from as little as $5
Great customer support
User-friendly interface
Supports multiple currencies and payment options
Secure platform that prevents access to buyers’ personal and financial details
Cons for buyers on Fiverr
Cheap gigs can sometimes translate to low-class services and even fraudsters
Finding quality services can cost significantly more than $5
Lengthy deadlines because sellers often take on too many orders

Fiverr benefits for bloggers
If you are a blogger, you can benefit from having a Fiverr account in two ways:
1. Find writers to produce content for your blog
The website offers access to thousands of professional writers, some of whom are bloggers themselves, and have high ratings on the site. Many of the top-rated and high level writers are also quite reasonable. However, you may have to try several writers to see which one best suits the style and caliber of writing you are looking for before picking one.
2. Write blog posts for others
You can also make extra money by choosing to sell your services as a blogger on Fiverr. Many website owners and other entrepreneurs join Fiverr to find bloggers who can create high-quality blog posts. If you amass plenty of five-star reviews and manage to maintain a good reputation on Fiverr, you can keep raising the price of your gigs. You can also upsell to other writers, and offer extra services related to blogging, which could further increase your earning potential.
Conclusion
Fiverr presents numerous opportunities for all types of freelancers, including bloggers, to grow their businesses and earn a living. Of course, it is not the only platform of its kind around. Be sure to check out the competition to see if there are more suitable options for your needs.
Until next time!
